>Never before have I thought I would need a snorkel for skiing, but yesterday it sure would have come in handy. Scott Durrant and I make the trek northward to check out a slope on Lionhead that Dean has been looking at for a while.
We parked on top of Targhee Pass and took the road in, catching the skin track just south of the first telephone pole. After about an hour of a slow approach, following the ridge westward we found the slope.
Without getting super technical about conditions, there was about 14″ of super fluffy powder on top of a crust layer, then a facetted layer. Due to the high winds overnight and heavy snowfall, we decided to savour what we had and get out while things were still good. The ride out was just as good even though there is less snow pack on the lower eastern slope.
