Dean and Heather promised a sunny day and they delivered! I left IF in a fog but popped out into bluebird skies just after passing Ririe on my way to Kelly Canyon.
I connected with D and H at the KC Ski Patrol shack. After a one-time lift ride to the top of lift 4, we started our odyssey to the Hawley Gulch area of the Big Holes; with skiing drops and climbs, we worked our way further east. We surfed down “Buckshot” into Hawley Gulch then climbed the ridge to explore the “Outer Limits” Our test pit showed weakness in the snowpack but fortunately, not instability, so off we went! We alternated between spring, corn snow and winter, powder stashes, making for very interesting but enjoyable skiing!
Two laps later, we started the long skin-n-ski back to KC, tired but happy!!!
