We got a little bit of new snow last night followed by a rain/mist event early this morning, followed by another snow event in the afternoon. I spent a few hours kickin’ around on the west end of Kelly Mtn this afternoon, mostly for some needed exercise. With a lot of terrain producing what you see in the video, i avoided big open slopes and stayed clear of terrain traps as the snow would easily sluff off and run on top of the rain crust.
The video shows the results of a quick ski cut on a small opening in the trees where i was descending. I would suggest avoiding steep areas with a lot of open slope associated with a terrain trap and especially wind loaded zones where the snow depth on top of the rain crust could be much deeper!
