Sheepish… most certainly.
Heather, Morris and I toured some of the terrain on the northeast side of Sheep Mountain in the Lemhis. Bluebird skies, cold temps, light breezes, and hair-trigger instabilities. We parked on Gilmore summit and skinned into the gulch between Long Canyon and Lemhi Union Gulch.
We explored some nice terrain and played it safe on the lower slopes of Sheep Mountain while we photographed some good-looking terrain to come back for when the snowpack is more predictable.
It was a lot of fun to skip around on lower angle terrain. The snow surface was soft and fast for our skis. Our position amongst beautiful craggy peaks made for an aesthetic ski tour in an area so often overlooked. My obsession with the Lemhis continues…
